As part of the Gotthard expansion, two comprehensive material management and processing plants operating in parallel were implemented for the treatment and reuse of tunnel excavation material.

The two processing lines combine mechanical rock processing with multi-stage screening and classification processes as well as high-capacity sand and aggregate production. Extensive conveying, distribution, storage and silo systems ensure an efficient material flow. The overall system is complemented by material sorting and a closed-loop water and sludge treatment system comprising high-rate clarifiers, process water circuits and chamber filter presses.

The scope of supply included the planning, delivery, installation, commissioning and optimization of the plants, as well as the complete electrical, control and automation systems, including visualization and process monitoring.

Despite the highly variable properties of the excavation material, the coordinated processes ensure reliable and cost-effective treatment. This produces high-quality sand and aggregates for further use.
